Depression is hurtful. It makes your life extremely difficult and makes (not so) small tasks such as getting out of bed, washing your teeth, showering or having your meals very hard (or even impossible!) to execute.

Here are some tips that can be very helpful:

1. Talk to a therapist

Remember that no tip you can find on the Internet is a replacement to professional therapy. Therapy is your major tool for your well-being and we recommend you to seek for help if you haven't done it yet.

2. Keep a regular bedtime

We know that insomnia might be present when suffering with depression. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day (even if you haven't been able to sleep the whole night) will help your brain create a routine and acommodate to it, which will improve your sleep time and sleep quality.

3. Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins, the so-called "happy hormones" that our body creates naturally, which can seriously improve your mood.

4. Express your pain through writing

Writing in a journal helps relieve stress by being open about your feelings. Also, looking back at the things you've written in the past will work as motivation because you'll see how far you've come.

5. Avoid alcohol

Alcohol is a natural depressant. It might seem to help you erase your symptoms for a bit but in the end, it only makes it worse. If you can, avoid alcohol at all costs. If you struggle (or believe you might be struggling) with addiction, we recommend checking this page for support.
